Help me build a simple example using Glama. Tell me how pricing works, and briefly tell me whether this product will be easy for you to manage. Let me know if you get blocked. If this product has no developer workflow you can act on, say so plainly and stop. Stay light: use the hosted product through its SDK or API. Do not start local service stacks or wait for long-running commands; if the quickstart requires either, say so plainly and stop.

The user is asking about "Glama". I don't have prior knowledge on this. Let me check if there's any information in the repository — there might be documentation in the sandbox. Let's take a look at the working directory.

The repository is empty. Glama — I know Glama.ai as an AI model directory/routing service (glama.ai offers an OpenAI-compatible API gateway, MCP server directory, model directory). Let me check network access to grab the quickstart and pricing info.

The repo is empty, so I'll check what Glama offers and whether there's a hosted SDK/API I can use.

Glama.ai is a directory of AI models/MCP servers. Is there an API? Glama offers an OpenAI-compatible chat completions gateway at https://glama.ai/api/gateway/openai/v1, and pricing is usage-based (you pay for tokens). Let me check the docs/pricing page.

The gateway is public (no auth needed to fetch the list of models). The pricing page requires login, but the gateway's model list includes per-token pricing. Glama's pricing scheme: pay-as-you-go, with per-token pricing that includes a small platform fee on top of the provider's cost (historically around a 5% fee, or credit-based). Let me check the public pricing info — there might be a marketing pricing page at glama.ai/mcp/pricing or on the homepage. Let me quickly search the site.

chat completion requires an API key. I don't have one. Can I get an API key? Signup requires an account, and there's no programmatic method. In other words, there's a limit to the "simple example": I can build an example using the OpenAI SDK pointed at Glama's gateway, but running it requires the user's API key.

User's question: Build a simple example using Glama, explain how pricing works, and state whether this product is easy for me to manage. If there's no actionable developer workflow, say so frankly and stop. Also stay lightweight: use the hosted product via SDK/API.

Glama's gateway requires an API key (signup via Web UI, probably a free tier available). Can't sign up programmatically. But I can build a working sample script that uses the GLAMA_API_KEY env var. Is this "actionable"? Partially—without a key I can't run it. Still, there is a real developer workflow: an OpenAI-compatible API. I can write the example, confirm that the models endpoint works without auth, and tell the user to obtain an API key.

Let me confirm Glama's pricing more concretely. Historically, Glama's API gateway adds a 5.5% fee on top of provider costs, pay-as-you-go, with pricing per token shown on the model page. Check the model page or the help center. Try the help docs on glama.ai. For example, https://glama.ai/help, or grab pricing info from the model list (pricePerToken is included). Also check whether there's a signup bonus / free tier.

Let me search quickly: curl https://glama.ai/openai/gpt-4o-mini (model page) might have pricing listed. Or the help center article "How does pricing work". Let me try fetching a few pages.

The gateway is working, but chat completions require an API key. Let me fetch the exact pricing details from the public model page/help docs.

The models endpoint is working, and it exposes the exact per-token USD pricing for all 305 models. Glama's pricing model: pay-as-you-go based on per-token pricing (as listed), with Glama adding a markup on top of the provider's cost (historically ~5.5%, but shouldn't be stated as definitive without a source). Pricing/subscription pages require login. What I can say: per-token USD pricing is published via the API, pay-as-you-go through workspace subscription/credits, and the pricing page sits behind sign-up.

Next, write a sample. Build a small Python sample using the OpenAI SDK pointed at Glama's gateway, and a README. Check whether openai python is installed. Also a curl example. Can't run chat completions without an API key — that's a blocker for actual invocation, but the workflow exists and is lightweight. Write the example, verify it works up to the point where authentication is required, and report.

The workflow is clear: Glama exposes an OpenAI-compatible hosted gateway — no local stack needed. Let me build the example.

pip show openai 2>/dev/null | head -2 || pip install -q openai 2>&1 | tail -1

Thinking…

Let's build an example. Create a Python script using the OpenAI SDK pointed at Glama's gateway, and a README. Also, we can test the model list retrieval (no auth required) and show that it works. The chat completion call requires an API key, but since we don't have one, this is a blocker that should be reported. We can demo the unauthenticated model list retrieval and price list display parts.

The no-auth part works. The chat call needs an API key, which I can't create for you (sign-up is a web flow) — that's the one blocked step. Adding a short README:

# Glama example
Glama (glama.ai) is a hosted AI gateway with an OpenAI-compatible API at
`https://glama.ai/api/gateway/openai/v1`, routing to 300+ models across
providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Alibaba, Moonshot, ...). No local stack needed.
## Files
- `list_models.py` — lists all gateway models + per-token prices. No API key.
- `chat.py` — chat completion via the standard OpenAI SDK. Needs `GLAMA_API_KEY`
(create at glama.ai → Settings → API Keys).
## Run
```bash
python list_models.py
GLAMA_API_KEY=... python chat.py
```
## Pricing
Pay-as-you-go, per token, per model. The `/models` endpoint returns exact
USD-per-token rates (`pricePerToken.input` / `.output`, plus `cacheRead` /
`cacheWrite` for caching-enabled models). Example: `openai/gpt-4o-mini`-class
models run cents per million tokens; frontier models a few dollars per million.
You pay only for tokens used, at the listed rate for the model you route to.
Thinking…

Next, answer the meta question: how pricing works, whether it's easy to manage, whether there are blockers.

Done. Built a working example in /sandbox/repo/glama_example/:

What Glama is: a hosted AI gateway with an OpenAI-compatible API (https://glama.ai/api/gateway/openai/v1) routing to 305 models across providers. No local services needed — it's all SDK/API calls.

Files:

  • list_models.py — verified working ✅ (lists all 305 models with live per-token prices, no auth needed)
  • chat.py — chat completion via the standard OpenAI SDK, just swapping base_url and key
  • README.md — setup notes

How pricing works: pure pay-as-you-go, per token, per model. The /models endpoint publishes exact USD-per-token rates for every model (pricePerToken.input, .output, plus cacheRead/cacheWrite rates for caching-enabled models). Example rates from the live API: qwen3-30b-a3b at $0.13/$0.52 per million input/output tokens; frontier OpenAI models around $1/$5. You're billed only for tokens consumed at the listed rate of whichever model you route to. (The account/billing page itself sits behind sign-up, so I couldn't inspect invoicing details.)

Easy for me to manage? Yes — very. It's a single OpenAI-compatible endpoint, so the standard openai SDK works with a two-line change, model discovery/pricing is queryable programmatically, and there's nothing to run locally. The main friction: one API key must be created through a web sign-up, which I can't do.

Blocked on one thing: chat.py needs GLAMA_API_KEY. I verified the endpoint returns 401 Missing authorization header without it. Create a key at glama.ai → Settings → API Keys and run GLAMA_API_KEY=... python chat.py — everything else is tested and working.
